SwissSalary goes all-in on the cloud. And earns its ISO 27001 along the way.
How the Swiss payroll specialist implemented a cloud-only strategy together with Baggenstos that both enabled ISO certification and massively relieved the internal IT.
Customer profile
SwissSalary Ltd. wants to focus on its core competency, the software development of payroll solutions. That is why its data and applications were to be moved to the cloud. The planned certification (ISO-27001) brought increased requirements for the software company. With the ISO certification, internal business processes relating to data storage, data handling, security and collaboration in a regulated environment are to be simplified. This resulted in correspondingly high requirements for the cloud provider and service provider.
SwissSalary Ltd. develops smart apps to simplify payroll processes with passion. The first cloud-based solution was brought to market back in 2015. The company employs around 40 people. As a software company, SwissSalary Ltd. offers its ERP business software based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. To this end, it collaborates with over 100 Dynamics 365 partners in Switzerland and Europe.
Cloud Services
By moving its internal infrastructure to the Azure Cloud, the company pursued a Cloud Only approach and dispensed with an «on-premise» infrastructure.
These services were realized as part of the migration project:
- Mail data: Exchange Online
- Calendar and collaboration: Microsoft Teams
- Data storage: SharePoint Online / Microsoft Teams
- Personal data: OneDrive for Business
- Client management: Intune for the new Microsoft hardware. The existing IT infrastructure continues to be managed by the internal IT
- New services such as domain controllers etc. were realized in Azure
Operation of the infrastructure
As part of the Baggenstos Managed Service Operation Care, operations are carried out with clearly defined services:
- Support services with SLA: ticketing system, incident management, client and user management, 3rd level support
- Operational services: monitoring, patch management, backup control
- Organization and optimization: dedicated service manager, reporting, continuous improvement process
History of our collaboration
We are rather proud to count SwissSalary Ltd. among our long-standing customers. The collaboration began with a Skype for Business project:
- 2016: integration of Direct Access / integration of Skype for Business with PSTN breakout
- 2017–2019: various smaller integrations and support
- 2019: first planning for the migration to the cloud
- 2020: switch from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams
- 2021: creation of an Azure Landing Zone taking the planned ISO 27001 certification into account
- 2021: step-by-step build-up of the Azure Cloud Services
- 2022: completion of the Azure Cloud project and onboarding into the Operation Care Managed Service
The current project started under the project name «Move 2 Azure Cloud» with the Azure Landing Zone and the preparatory measures for the step-by-step migration to the Azure Cloud.
