Frequently Asked Questions, Honest Answers
What does Windows 365 cost as a managed service?
Windows 365 is billed per user and month, depending on the chosen configuration (CPU, RAM, storage). On top of that comes our managed-service share for operations, monitoring and support. In the initial consultation we analyze your needs and prepare a transparent quote. Many customers appreciate the predictability: no hidden costs, no surprises at the end of the month. The total cost is often lower than that of a classic desktop infrastructure.
How does Baggenstos support the secure migration of our on-premises desktops to Microsoft Windows 365?
We migrate in four steps and then take over operations as a managed service. Step one: assessment of your current workplaces, applications and security requirements. Step two: design of the right Windows 365 configuration, identities in Entra ID and management in Microsoft Intune. Step three: pilot with a selected user group, including Conditional Access and compliance policies. Step four: rollout, training and handover to operations. As a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Modern Work with deep Azure expertise, we bring experience from Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365. Data location: Swiss Microsoft data centres.
Why is Desktop as a Service considered a particularly cost-efficient and scalable solution for growing companies?
Desktop as a Service replaces one-off hardware and infrastructure investments with a predictable monthly amount per user. You pay for exactly what you use and scale without procurement processes. If your team grows by ten people, the Cloud PCs are provisioned in minutes. When employees leave the company, you release the license. There are no depreciation costs on devices, no unused server capacity and no refresh cycles. As a managed service, we take over provisioning, patching and support, so your IT resources are freed up for topics that directly move your business forward.
How does Microsoft Windows 365 differ from classic terminal servers or VDI solutions?
Classic terminal server and VDI environments require dedicated servers, licenses, profile management and continuous maintenance by specialists. Windows 365 turns this model around: every user receives a personal, full Windows desktop as a cloud service with a predictable monthly amount per user. There are no shared sessions, no profile issues and no dedicated infrastructure that you have to operate. Management runs through Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, just like any other modern workplace. For SMEs this means VDI comfort without VDI complexity and without investing in your own servers.
What concrete advantages does a Cloud PC offer compared to a conventional company laptop?
A Cloud PC moves your workplace from local hardware into a Swiss Microsoft data center. Three advantages are especially relevant for SMEs. First: employees access the same full Windows desktop from the office, from home and even from a MacBook. Second: sensitive data never leaves the data center, because only the display runs on the end device. If a laptop is lost, data and applications remain protected. Third: provisioning becomes a matter of minutes instead of days, and management is handled centrally via Microsoft Intune, just like a physical device.
Can resource-intensive applications such as CAD programs run smoothly via Windows 365?
Yes, provided the Cloud PCs are sized correctly. Windows 365 Enterprise offers configurations of up to 16 vCPU and 64 GB RAM, plus GPU-enabled variants for graphics-heavy workloads such as CAD, BIM or image editing. In practice, we first assess the requirements of your applications and choose the right configuration. Because the computing happens in the Microsoft data center, a simple notebook or MacBook is enough on the end device. For very specific profiles, we combine Windows 365 with Azure Virtual Desktop, where individual GPU scaling and pooling make sense. We determine the right variant during the assessment.
Can we keep using our existing devices and applications?
Yes. Windows 365 runs on any device with a browser or remote desktop client, including older laptops, thin clients or personal devices. Your existing applications can usually be provisioned directly within the Cloud PC. During the assessment we check the compatibility of every business-critical application and define the right Cloud PC configuration. This lets you keep using existing hardware and save on capital expenditure.
