99.9% of all attacks stopped. With a single measure.
How the engineering firm rolled out multi-factor authentication company-wide with Baggenstos and now prevents 99.9 percent of all break-in attempts.
Multi-factor authentication works
We have been working successfully with Hunziker Betatech AG since 2017 within Operation Care. For this dynamic and growing engineering company, flexibility and security are the top priorities. Using Office 365, employees can log in worldwide and work independently of location. However, since potential attackers could also exploit this, we recommended improving account protection through multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA can prevent 99.9% of all break-in attempts. Although practically everyone knows it from online banking, it is unfortunately still rarely used in many companies today. The reason for this is often convenience or a misjudgement of the threat situation.
MFA is included in Office 365 by default. With our company-specific setup of the service, maximum security is achieved with minimal impact on user convenience.
The security of company data is close to the heart of CEO Peter Hunziker:
"We take our responsibility for protecting our company and customer data very seriously. With the company-wide introduction of MFA, we have taken an important step towards greater cybersecurity."
Facts and Figures
Initial situation and objective
With Office 365, Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business (personal data) and SharePoint Online (specific project storage), Hunziker Betatech AG gives its employees the ability to log in and work from anywhere in the world. This makes work considerably easier, but also offers cybercriminals more opportunities to attack. The goal was to comprehensively protect the IT infrastructure against unauthorised access.
Solution
A very effective method for protecting against data theft is multi-factor authentication, as this method is not limited to passwords alone but uses additional methods as well. Recent studies by Microsoft show that this can prevent 99.99 percent of all hacker attacks and attempts at data and identity theft.
Current scenario according to Microsoft: every day, hackers attempt around 300 million times to take over one of Microsoft users' online accounts. Password solutions are now extremely insecure, and cracking them is no longer a problem for cybercriminals. The length of the password makes no difference either, because with credential stuffing or phishing, attackers have additional tools for the well-known brute-force attacks.
Results
With the switch to multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the Hunziker accounts, attack attempts can be efficiently prevented in future. Multi-factor authentication remains effective even if hackers should gain possession of passwords. The simplest variant of two-factor authentication is already sufficient here, which provides for the sending of an SMS in addition to identification by password.
Users can also conveniently identify themselves via the Microsoft Authenticator app on their smartphone. In addition, thanks to "conditional access", the number of required authentications is minimised.
MFA for greater security in the cloud
With MFA, we make a decisive contribution to greater security in the cloud as part of our Operation Care Managed Services.
All logins are now carried out using multi-step authentication, enabling employees to work without interruption and without worrying about data theft and unauthorised access. Over 99.99 percent of all attack attempts can thus be repelled.
After the introduction of MFA, the CEO and security officers know that they have done their homework in protecting company and customer data.
Congratulations on a substantial increase in cybersecurity
We at Baggenstos are delighted that the management of Hunziker Betatech dared to take this important step towards a marked increase in their IT security. We would also like to thank them most sincerely for the good cooperation and look forward to continuing to support this innovative company with "state-of-the-art" solutions and services.

We take our responsibility to protect our company and customer data very seriously. With the company-wide rollout of MFA, we have taken an important step towards greater cybersecurity.
