Initial situation and objectives

GlycoEra's IT infrastructure was initially based largely on systems from a predecessor organization and was built during the company's early stages under limited budget conditions. Integrating locations in Switzerland and the USA added further complexity. In day-to-day operations, this manifested as slow connections, poorly structured system landscapes, and fragmented, inconsistent client setups. Despite support from external IT service providers in Switzerland and the USA, these challenges could not be resolved sustainably in the long term.

This situation led to increased support efforts and operational uncertainties. Furthermore, the existing infrastructure was outdated and in need of a fundamental overhaul. For a research-intensive company handling sensitive data, this was a critical priority.

The goal was to create a unified, secure, and modern IT environment. Collaboration needed to be simplified and accelerated. At the same time, workstations were to be standardized and operations made more efficient. Security was also to be significantly increased at all levels.

Solution and implementation

Baggenstos completely transformed the existing IT infrastructure. The core focus was migrating the previous servers to a cloud environment, which established the foundation for stable, location-independent system access. At the same time, workstations were standardized and brought up to date. The various devices were integrated into a clear, unified structure, simplifying management and reducing daily operational effort. Additionally, the network was comprehensively overhauled and specifically secured, with security mechanisms introduced and standardized at every level. Recurring tasks, such as system updates and data backups, were also automated.

Following the successful implementation, Baggenstos took over the operation of the entire environment. As a result, GlycoEra now benefits from reliable support and clear responsibilities in its day-to-day operations.
