Four locations across three continents. One digital workplace.
How the Swiss technology supplier worked with Baggenstos to replace rigid licensing costs with a demand-based cloud model and connect four locations across three continents.
Customer Profile
Flexible, demand-based licensing without investments thanks to the Cloud Solution Provider CSP model, state-of-the-art online communication with Skype for Business and access from anywhere/with any device to shared data on OneDrive for Business – these are the results of the new hybrid cloud solution from Bomatec.
With over 20 years of experience, the Bomatec Group is one of the leading providers in the fields of magnet technology, sensor technology and drive technology. Based in Höri ZH, the company has made an international name for itself with innovative products as a supplier for industrial electronics, drive technology as well as the machine and automotive industry.
For Markus Bolliger, CEO of the Bomatec Group, the adaptability of resources is one of the most important advantages of the new solution:
«Flexibility and short response times are very important to us in today's industry environment. The cloud solution and licensing under the CSP model allow us to make quick adjustments. Alongside cost savings, this also gives us greater agility.»
Facts and Figures
Initial Situation and Objectives
Into the cloud – with a flexible licensing model: The ICT infrastructure of the Bomatec Group is used not only by 60 users in Switzerland, but also by the employees of the branches in Canada, Malaysia and China. And it was precisely these users who were to be better integrated into the central ICT.
The previously used model with purchased licenses for Microsoft Office proved to be too inflexible – in particular because it could not sufficiently accommodate the changing needs of growth and consolidation phases. The key measures of the project were defined as follows:
• Introduction of a modern cloud solution with the Cloud Solution Provider CSP model
• Renewal of the workplace in two steps (1. Microsoft Office; 2. Microsoft Windows 10)
• Introduction of OneDrive for Business
• Migration of data to Exchange Online
The goal was to achieve higher availability and greater flexibility – while keeping the necessary investments to a minimum.
Solution
Since the migration had to be carried out quickly and without any restrictions for users, the professionals at Baggenstos relied on proven components: The new ICT solution was implemented with Office 365 E4 licenses including Skype for Business.
The Active Directory was connected to the Microsoft Cloud; the deployment of the Office 365 client installation is handled via the System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). The setup of the Exchange hybrid deployment online was carried out with Exchange 2016.
Results
With Microsoft's Cloud Solution Provider CSP program, billing is done monthly per user. This has the advantage that the required resources can be adapted to current needs at any time.
The share on the file server (the classic «home drive») was replaced by OneDrive for Business. This means that all users now have access to their data at any time and from anywhere, including via smartphone or tablet.
Challenges
The migration had to be carried out quickly and without any restrictions for users. Users from the international branches were to be seamlessly integrated into the central ICT.
Many thanks for the great collaboration
We are delighted that we were able to equip the ICT of the Bomatec Group for the challenges of the future, and we wish the company continued success.
