Lenzlinger Söhne AG is a family-owned company, now led by the fifth generation. It operates in the construction fit-out sector and also runs several petrol stations. Its core services include:
- Consulting, planning and installation: construction of raised access floors for energy centres and data centres, rail and road infrastructure, and office buildings
- Consulting, planning and installation of floor coverings: or residential and commercial spaces and hospitals. The company supplies and installs all types of floor coverings, including carpet, parquet and other solutions. It operates a modern showroom and can respond quickly thanks to its extensive warehouse stock.
The company’s headquarters are located in Nänikon (Zurich), with an additional branch in Bernex. This enables Lenzlinger to deliver projects efficiently across Switzerland.

Starting point and objectives
The starting point for the “Lenzlinger2Cloud” project was that Lenzlinger Söhne AG was operating its backend infrastructure and endpoints on a Citrix-based platform that no longer met current requirements and had also become significantly oversized. The plan was to decouple this environment and replace it with a service-provider-agnostic Microsoft cloud solution.
This was intended to drive the next step in the company’s digital transformation while meeting today’s heightened security requirements. In addition, Lenzlinger was looking to bring in a new service partner to inject fresh momentum and establish a strong, trust-based working relationship.

Solution and implementation
The Baggenstos team delivered a comprehensive cloud programme for the customer, mapping all IT services to the Microsoft Cloud (Azure and Microsoft 365).
Migration to the Microsoft Cloud
Lenzlinger’s services were integrated into the following models, depending on the specific requirements:
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Provisioning of virtual machines, storage solutions and network infrastructure.
- Platform as a Service (PaaS): Leveraging Azure services for application development and operations.
- Software as a Service (SaaS): Using Microsoft 365 for productivity and collaboration tools.
Security
To achieve the required high security posture, all currently available security capabilities were implemented and configured in line with Microsoft best-practice recommendations:
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access Policies (CAP) for secure access control.
- Microsoft Defender for Cloud: Protection of the entire Azure environment through continuous security assessments and threat detection.
- Microsoft Defender for Office365: Defence against phishing, malware and ransomware attacks across email and collaboration.
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint: Endpoint protection with proactive threat detection and automated response.
- Microsoft Defender for Identity: Protection against identity-based threats in hybrid environments.

Lenzlinger benefits from a comprehensive support service covering all requirements:
- 1st line support: First point of contact for user queries and minor issues.
- 2nd line support: Support for more in-depth technical problems.
- 3rd line support: Resolution of complex challenges by subject-matter experts.
As a result, Lenzlinger Söhne AG operates a stable, secure and scalable IT environment, enabling the business to focus on its core operations while Baggenstos ensures the ongoing operation and security of the IT landscape.
Challenges
A key challenge in the project was the legacy ERP landscape, with countless undocumented interfaces, as well as the need to run the existing Citrix platform in parallel until the new solution was fully rolled out.
Success therefore depended on close collaboration with the customer, the incumbent provider and all relevant vendors. The strength and resilience of this partnership became particularly clear when a key member of the project team became unavailable. Through a concerted joint effort, the gap was closed and the project was completed as planned.
