The impact of Microsoft's investment in Switzerland on Baggenstos

It was more than just a commitment: Microsoft President Brad Smith and Microsoft Switzerland CEO Catrin Hinkel recently presented their plans for Switzerland in the presence of Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin. The investment totals 400 million Swiss francs. Most of this will go towards the expansion of the Swiss data centres near Zurich and Geneva, which were built in 2019, and around CHF 70 million towards AI education and training. Microsoft also wants to expand its collaboration with start-ups and SMEs in Switzerland.

Strengthening the technical basis of SMEs

Microsoft wants to expand its data centre capacity by almost half across Europe over the next few years and protect the privacy of users on the continent. Brad Smith and Catrin Hinkel also made this promise for Switzerland. In addition, Switzerland's role as a global hub for responsible AI governance is to be strengthened. «This will boost Switzerland's innovative strength», summarises Thomas Baggenstos. «And we will gain new, stronger digital instruments to support SMEs even better on their journey.»
