Plan your farewell to Windows 10 now
Das Wichtigste in Kürze
- Windows 10 support ends on 14 October 2025, after which there will be no more security and feature updates
- Baggenstos plans the upgrade to Windows 11 with Intune, pilot deployment, app testing and employee training
- Windows 11 brings a higher security level and, with the Quick Recovery Tool, better resilience against software failures
From 14 October 2025, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10. This means numerous limitations and uncertainties. Security and feature updates will no longer be distributed, and compliance can no longer be maintained.
Computers will of course continue to work with older Windows versions, but the risks are high: costs increase and vulnerability to hacker attacks grows ever greater. The same applies to the Microsoft 365 apps: they will continue to run, but performance may degrade over time.
Plan the upgrade to Windows 11 carefully
«It is high time to say goodbye to Windows 10,» says Sven Heeb, Project Manager and Cloud Solution Architect. «We support the upgrade with Intune or develop a tailored strategy.»
This includes a deployment plan, the definition of readiness criteria, the assessment of infrastructure and tools, the testing of applications and the definition of the maintenance strategy. The simplest approach is cloud-based management via Microsoft Intune, but other approaches also lead to the upgrade goal. Our Baggenstos experts analyse together with our customers which one fits.
The strategy must be adapted to the conditions of each company. Here are some general notes: Windows 11 places certain requirements on the hardware. These can be checked at the hardware level; the corresponding analysis tools are also integrated into other Microsoft tools such as endpoint analytics. The devices need to be enrolled in Microsoft Intune or the Microsoft Configuration Manager.
Managed devices that meet the minimum requirements can use the existing tools for the upgrade. On unmanaged devices, Windows Update must be used for this.
Accompanying communication
In principle, Windows 10 applications also run on Windows 11. This also applies to industry-specific apps. According to Microsoft measurements, the compatibility rate reaches almost 100 percent. Nevertheless, the company applications must be tested before the upgrade.
A pilot deployment for a few selected users, accompanied by a communication campaign, is recommended. With this, companies ensure that the innovations and productivity gains are adopted into everyday work. Baggenstos trains the employees and ensures that the transition from the old to the new Windows generation runs smoothly.
Windows 11: the basis for business model security
The upgrade to Windows 11 is worthwhile for many reasons. One of them is the increased security level, indispensable for protecting companies that have to conduct their business in a heightened threat situation.
One example: with the new Quick Recovery Tool for Windows 11, computers that can no longer start, for instance due to a software error, can be repaired. This prevents large-scale outages such as those that made headlines last year. The new tool is part of the Windows Resilience Initiative, which makes Windows 11 one of the most secure operating systems in the enterprise sector.
