Plan your farewell to Windows 10 now
Microsoft will discontinue support for Windows 10 from October 14, 2025. This means numerous restrictions and uncertainties. Security and function updates will no longer be distributed and compliance can no longer be maintained.
Although computers will continue to work with older versions of Windows, the risks are high: costs are rising and the vulnerability to hacker attacks is increasing. This also applies to the Microsoft 365 apps: although they will continue to run, performance may be impaired over time.
Plan your upgrade to Windows 11 carefully
“It's high time to say goodbye to Windows 10,” says Sven Heeb, Project Manager and Cloud Solution Architect. “We can help you upgrade with Intune or develop a customized strategy.”
This includes a deployment plan, defining readiness criteria, evaluating the infrastructure and tools, testing the applications and defining the maintenance strategy. Cloud-based management using Microsoft Intune is the simplest, but other approaches also lead to the upgrade goal. Our Baggenstos experts work with our customers to analyze which one suits them best.
The strategy must be adapted to the requirements of each company. Here are some general tips: Windows 11 places certain requirements on the hardware. These can be checked at the hardware level; however, the corresponding analysis tools are also integrated into other Microsoft tools such as endpoint analysis. It is necessary to register the devices in Microsoft Intune or the Microsoft Configuration Manager.
Managed devices that meet the minimum requirements can use the existing tools to upgrade. Windows Update must be used on unmanaged devices.
Accompanying communication
In principle, Windows 10 applications also run on Windows 11, including industry-specific apps. According to Microsoft measurements, the compatibility rate is almost 100 percent. Nevertheless, company applications must be tested before the upgrade.
A pilot deployment for a few selected users, accompanied by a communication campaign, is recommended. This enables companies to ensure that the innovations and productivity gains are incorporated into everyday life. Baggenstos trains employees and ensures that the transition from the old to the new Windows generation runs smoothly.
Windows 11: Basis for business model security
The upgrade to Windows 11 is worthwhile for many reasons. One of them is the increased level of security, which is essential to protect companies that have to conduct their business in a heightened threat situation.
For example, the new Quick Recovery Tool for Windows 11 can be used to repair computers that can no longer start due to a software error. This prevents large-scale failures such as those that made headlines last year. The new tool is part of the Windows Resilience Initiative, which makes Windows 11 one of the most secure operating systems in the corporate sector.
