Switch to the New Outlook
For decades, Outlook has been the de facto standard for business email. With the new Outlook client for Windows, communication becomes even simpler and more secure.
Microsoft has enhanced this central hub for email with deep integration into Microsoft 365, Teams, and Copilot. AI now accelerates communication by assisting with drafting and refining messages. Instead of a standard reply, you can easily switch to sending a chat message.
On the security side, the redesigned server architecture ensures that, even in 2025, email – still a primary channel for communication with customers and suppliers – remains a highly secure medium.
Not all features from the classic desktop Outlook are available yet. However, here you can stay up to date on the rapid rollout of new capabilities. Of particular interest: message retention in M365 can now be extended to 180 days, and administrators can finely control which folders Outlook keeps a local copy of.
If you are a classic Outlook Business Plan user, you will be automatically migrated to the new Outlook after receiving several in-app notifications. You can switch back at any time, or – as a user or IT administrator – prevent the automatic migration. Starting from October 2025, the transition will take place silently in the background, provided the primary account is an Exchange Online account.
